  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz)
  • 2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped pistachios
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Unroll phyllo dough, keeping it covered with a damp cloth. Layer about ten sheets in the dish, brushing each with melted butter.
  3. In a bowl, mix chopped nuts with sugar and cinnamon. Spread half over the phyllo layers.
  4. Continue layering with five more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Add remaining nut mixture and top with another ten butter-brushed phyllo sheets.
  5. Cut diamond shapes on top before baking for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  6. While baking, prepare syrup by boiling honey, water, and sugar for ten minutes. Pour hot syrup over baked baklava immediately after removing from the oven.
  7. Allow it to sit for several hours or overnight before serving.
