Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; stir until shaggy.
  3. Knead: Transfer dough to a floured surface; knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. First Rise: Place in a greased bowl; cover with a towel. Let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Create Swirls: Punch down the dough, roll it out into a rectangle, brush with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar, and roll tightly into a log.
  6. Second Rise: Cut into rolls, place on parchment-lined baking sheet, cover again, and let rise for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F.
  7. Bake: Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Drizzle with icing if desired.
