Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef or lamb
  • 1 cup cooked jasmine rice
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (plus extra for baking)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by boiling salted water in a large pot. Remove the core from the cabbage and blanch it for about five minutes until tender. Peel off individual leaves.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onions in olive oil until translucent. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. In a bowl, mix cooked rice, ground meat, sautéed onions, dill, parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Take one cabbage leaf and place two tablespoons of filling at its base. Fold in the sides and roll tightly. Repeat with remaining leaves.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish and arrange stuffed rolls seam-side down. Pour remaining tomato sauce over them.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for about one hour. Remove foil during the last ten minutes.
  7. Serve warm with a drizzle of lemon juice or garnish with fresh herbs.
