  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon or orange

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, granulated sugar, and salt; mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. For the filling, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and citrus zest in a small bowl.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread softened butter over the surface and sprinkle the filling evenly.
  7. Roll up tightly from one long edge and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place cut rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for about 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before drizzling with icing made from powdered sugar mixed with milk.
